42 (who?)
You think you know me
Simply because you know I'm a homosexual?
You don't.
You think because you know
One simple thing about me
That you know all there is to know.
You don't.

I'm more than a homosexual.
I'm a father.
I'm a husband.
I'm a patriot.
I'm a community leader.
I'm a mentor.
I'm many things.

You proceed from false assumptions,
Simply because you know one thing about me.
You judge and convict me on the grounds,
Of my sexuality.

You don't know me,
You never have,
You never will,
Not until you've walked a mile in my shoes.

You can't even begin to understand,
The life I've lived.
You don't know the truth behind
What you see.
Your mind is a closed,
Hate filled, sphere feeding on it's own spite.

You'll never know the real me
Yet you categorize, compartmentalize,
You stereotype me for something
I have no control over.
You hate and fear me,
Because I dare to stand up for myself.
You revile me and call me sinner
Because I celebrate who I truly am,
Who God created me to be.

You don't know me.
You'll never understand,
Not until you've walked a mile in my shoes.
Think about it.

You are an inspiration, My friend.
Your words ring true. Now if those who can't understand or just choose to bury their heads in the sand could read this, Maybe, Just maybe they would know that love is love. No matter the sexual orientation. love knows no barriers.

I want to marry my girlfriend someday. The one issue is that my dad is a strict Christian...I love him--obviously because he's my father--but I don't want to lose him because he won't be able to accept that about me...

Advice, please? You seem really smart and know what you're doing. ;_;
I don't have any answers. No one does when it comes to such situations. In the end it all comes down to what you as an individual want, what you can live with, and what makes you happy.

I am not. :'D
Well that's a problem not only homosexuals have to deal with... I'd really like to say you should stand above such people, but it's a hard thing to do...
I never said it was an exclusive problem pertaining only to homosexuals, though we do tend to be at the top of the list when it comes to snap judgements. You could replace the word homosexual with the name of other groups who people stereotype and the message would be the same. "Don't judge others based on a single piece of information like sexuality, age, race, etc." Yet it happens all the time. Humans need to grow up. Sadly that's been something we've needed to do since the beginning but haven't learned how to do.
Oh no, I did not want to suggest that you said that, it was rather aimed and some of the other commentators. There were some comments like "us poor homosexuals" and I don't like that kind of "I'm discriminated much more than you"-spirit.
But I agree totally with your basic statement. To my mind it doesn't matter why there's suffering but how to end it.
